Down to Earth

Down to Earth
Ritchie Blackmore’s formation of Rainbow with lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio and members of his band Elf in 1975 had produced the solid album Ritchie Blackrnore’s Rainbow containing the minor hit `Man On A Silver Mountain’. By the following year however, only Dio remained from the Elf musicians with Ritchie recruiting a completely different rhythm section in drummer Cozy Powell and bass player Jimmy Bain along with keyboard player, Tony Carey for their sophomore offering. Released in 1976 and produced by Deep Purple’s engineer and producer, Martin Birch, Rising was a much stronger album to its predecessor, containing the Rainbow classic, `Stargazer’ and further solidly performed tracks such as, `A Light In The Black’ and the unusually short n’ catchy, `Do You Close Your Eyes’. With stunning artwork by Marvel comics fantasy artist, Ken Kelly, Rising went on to achieve formidable chart success reaching number 48 in the U.S. and an impressive number 6 in the U.K. This was the album that saw Rainbow equaling anything that Blackmore’s previous band, Deep Purple had ever produced. This Deluxe Expanded Edition of the album adds a raft of bonus tracks with Disc 1 comparing both the New York and Los Angeles mixes of the entire album, whilst Disc 2 contains previously unreleased rough mixes of all the album tracks along with three tour rehearsal versions
